Happy Monday everyone!
It’s a chilly, but sunny day here in New York & I figured it was time to do a skin care routine review. I feel that this winter has been extremely cold some days and then warm other days and it’s as if my skin had a cold the way it was not cooperating. I would get home at the end of the day and half my foundation would be off, my redness on my cheeks was coming through, and my contour was all patchy looking. I knew I had to get this under control because it was so embarrassing!
I’m great with picking out the perfect lipstick, blending eye shadows together, and drawing a good winged liner, but I wasn’t sure what went underneath all of that and the correct process to take care of my face. By chance, I walked into a Sephora on the corner of Court Street in Downtown Brooklyn & met a Sephora Skin Care Professional, Anastasia, who was so knowledgeable and explained everything to me that was going on with my skin. All I told her was that my foundation was starting to not stay on my face; you would see how dry my skin was & she started helping me pick out products.
First off, if you have dry skin like me you need to moisturize. As I have gotten older, my face has gone from oily to DRY. My dry skin crowd: you need to be extremely careful with this chilly weather – make sure to hydrate & replenish your face & take care of it because each day it is cold & when the cold hits your face, it dries it out. Even if you have oily skin, moisturizing is important because you need to restore nutrients in your skin and keep yourself looking fresh. It is also crucial to be careful with peels. If you use peels too much, they dry out your face A LOT! Use once a week at the most to take out toxins and get that dry skin off your face. The one I like to use that I received as a Christmas present is by Boscia. It is the Exfoliating Peel Gel. It removes the outer layer of dead skin. Your face literally feels so soft after & you can see the dead skin coming off your face while you wash.
Anastasia also recommended a different moisturizer. I was using Korres Pomegranate Balancing Cream- Gel Moisturizer, which I loved for a time, but when it ran out I knew I needed something else because my skin was acting up. It smells really amazing but didn’t do the job for me anymore. Anastasia recommended and let me try two products by Belif – the True Cream Aqua Bomb & the True Cream Moisturizing Bomb. They were the best sellers and felt so soft and cooling on my skin. I chose the True Cream Aqua Bomb, which felt a little more hydrating to me & had a light blue color. I liked that it is cold at first and wakes up your face and then dries after a minute. I use this everyday and a little goes a long way; all you need is a little dab and it covers the whole face, make sure to massage it into the parts on your face that are the driest, mine are in the hallows of my cheeks and on the bridge of my nose.
I also like using a scrub in the mornings called Let the Good Times Roll from Lush! I really get lost in Lush. This product has actual pieces of popcorn in it, which is how it sold me. It is made with maize flour, corn meal, a dash of cinnamon powder and corn oil, which helps skin to retain its moisture and elasticity. All you need is a little on your fingers, wet them with warm water and massage on. I like to do this at night before bed on the rest of the days I don’t use my Boscia peeler.
Anastasia mentioned the word toner to me and I admitted I never heard of it for the face. She sold me on Clinique Clarifying Lotion #1. It is targeted for dry to sensitive skin. She told me to only use this a few times a week because it also can make your dry face even more dry. I also like to use it after taking off my makeup because it gets off any residual makeup that has stayed on after I’ve used my Neutrogena wipes. It doesn’t sting my skin either, which is great.
Lastly, I picked up Soy Face Cleanser by Fresh. This helps to keep my face bright and smooth. It even takes off my mascara. I like it because it is all natural and rich in amino acids. The soy proteins support moisture retention while rosewater balances and tones the skin. I switch it up each night depends on my mood and the weather for the day.
I am happy to report that now that I have a healthy skin care routine, my face has gotten so much better. My foundation does not come off anymore and my contour stays in place. If you get a chance, head over to any Sephora and ask to speak to a Skin Care Professional, they will help you pick out the best products for your face! I hope you have as great of an experience as me!
I hope this was helpful for you!
